Treatment of perianal abscess in children: spontaneous drainage or incision-drainage?

Abstract Background The aim of the study is to evaluate clinical characteristics and compare treatment methods for perianal abscesses by assessing our experiences. Methods We have retrospectively analyzed records children who received abscess fistula-in-ano between January 2014 2022. Demographic information patients, complaints, procedures, recurrence, development was evaluated. Patients with systemic diseases inflammatory bowel were excluded from study. Results A total 312 (230 boys, 82 girls) included in median age 24.3 ± 18.1 months (1–216). In first examination, 61 (19.5%) patients had 25 1(80.5%) a abscess. most common symptoms erythema region, mass, constipation, rectal bleeding, inability defecate. Spontaneous drainage determined 34.3% ( n = 86) abscess, 65.7% 165) treated incision-drainage without general anesthesia antibiotherapy. follow-up, formed 27 Twenty-four developed fistula-in-ano, seen after spontaneous drainage, 3 them incision drainage. Perianal recurred 64 patients. Spontaneously drained significantly increased p 0.001). According results, antibiotic usage are appropriate decrease rate fistula-in-ano.
